Turkey season opens Saturday in Georgia with a population of about 300,000 birds
      Turkey hunters across the state are practicing their yelps and clucks in preparation for the upcoming turkey season. Opening day is Saturday, March 20, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division anticipates that the 2010 season should be good, and harvest levels should be similar in comparison to the past several years.

Tiger track teams take second place in opening tri-meet at Madison Co.
      Both the boys and girls Washington Wilkes Tiger track teams got the season started off with second place finishes in the first meet of the year competing against Madison County and Taliaferro County on March 9.

Diamond girls keep the program running
     The W-W Tiger Diamond Girls assist the varsity, junior varsity, and middle school baseball teams by being in charge of selling tickets, running the scoreboard, and announcing the players during the games. When it is not their time to work, they come to the games and cheer on the W-WMS or W-WCHS Tiger Baseball teams.

Baseball team splits week’s games, blanks Twiggs 15-0 in region opener
      Region play for the Washington- Wilkes Tiger baseball team got started in right good fashion last Tuesday when Robert McGill tossed a no-hit, three-inning, mercy-ruleshortened rout of the Cobras of Twiggs County. McGill allowed only one base runner in the 15-0 game.

Girls place second in tournament
     CSRA Force, a travelling girls softball team consisting of players from throughout the area, took second place in the high school division of the Camsports “Winter Blues” Tournament held March 6 in Milledgeville, Georgia. Wilkes County players on the team are (front row, left) Bailey Echols, Abby Smith, and (middle row, fourth from left) Lauren Chafin.
