“A Heart Full of Love For Mom” and “A Heart Full of Love for Dad” were the themes for two separate banquets at the First United Methodist Church, one on Friday, January 27, and the other on Saturday evening, January 28.

Reese Smith, son of Alicia and Michael Smith of Washington, celebrated his second birthday with family at the home of Tanya and Mike Smith on Saturday, January 14. His birthday was December 12.

Reese was treated to an Itsy Bitsy Spider theme party. His cake was made in the shape of a spider on a bed of grass. Party decorations included a custom banner made by his mother.

Nickels to present personal story at Women’s Conference

Amanda and Kenneth Robinson of Rayle announce the birth of their son, William Lane Ray, on Friday, January 13, at University Hospital in Augusta. Lane weighed 7 lbs. and was 20 inches long. He has a brother, Landon, who is 19 months old.

OLLI astronomy study to begin February 13 at Parish House

The Washington Chapter of Osher Lifetime Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Georgia will begin a three-session astronomy study, “Our Night Sky,” on Monday, February 13, at 2 p.m. at the Episcopal Parish House. The other two sessions, also at 2 p.m. at the Parish House, will be February 20 and 27.

Dr. Nan McMurry presented the program to the Washington Chapter of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the Lunch and Learn session Monday, January 30, at the Episcopal Parish House.

Dr. McMurry, director for Collection Development at the University of Georgia Libraries in Athens, holds a PhD in History from Duke University with a special emphasis in the history of medicine.

The Wilkes County Sunday School Union convened with the New Ford Baptist Church on January 27-29, where Rev. James White Jr. served as host pastor and Johnny Banks served as host superintendent.

The session was opened by Larry Smith and the devotional services were led by Albert Shank and Bobbie Hill. Singing was by congregation.

Girl Scout Troop 22510 enjoyed its first slumber party of the year with pizza, popcorn, and cookies and staying up late making hand bags, weaving baskets, singing, and dancing.

The next morning, the girls woke up early to roll up their sleeping bags and enjoy a breakfast of Toaster Strudels and fresh fruit.
