Heard wants a chance at a national championship, signs to play football for Georgia Southern Eagles

W-W Tiger standout Da’Quan Heard signed his letter of intent to play football for Georgia Southern University last Wednesday morning before an audience of family, friends and fellow Washington-Wikes Comprehensive High School and Middle School students.

Wrestlers qualify for sectional tournament this weekend

Six Tiger wrestlers competed at the Area Individual Tournament last Saturday and qualified to advance to the Sectional Tournament this weekend at Telfair County High School in McRae, Georgia. Both Alex Hackney (junior, 195 lbs.) and David Martin (senior, 182 lbs.) were named area champions in their weight classes. Also qualifying for sectional competition were A.J.

Youth quail hunt set for March 10 at Rolling Rock

The Frank Beckum/John Harvey Edwards Youth Quail Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 10, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Rolling Rock Shooting Preserve in Rayle.

The event will host a skeetshooting contest for children ages 8-18 as well as a quail hunt for ages 12-18. Those interested in the quail hunt must complete a hunter safety course prior to participating

Soccer registration begins for players ages 5-14 at PRD

Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department soccer registration has begun for children ages 5-14.

Anyone interested may sign up at the W-WPRD, located at 22 Lexington Avenue, Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

A fee of $40 will apply to anyone registering before Thursday, February 16. If registering between February 16-29, a fee of $45 will apply.

Girls to host Region 7A first round

By virtue of a 13-game winning streak (going into Tuesday’s game against Warren County), and a perfect 9-0 region record, the impressive Washington-Wilkes Lady Tigers basketball team earned the right to host the first round of the Region 7A playoffs next Tuesday, February 14.
