Wilkes County JUMP participants, including Dontai Tutt (above) enjoyed a field trip to the Double H Ranch in Colbert where, among other things, they got to ride horses under the supervision of Horace Hudson. The Wilkes County Community Partnership Juvenile Mentoring Program (JUMP) visited the Double H Ranch in Colbert, Georgia, on Saturday at the invitation of Marcie Simpson, Wilkes County Extension Agent. Mr. Horace Hudson (Double “H”) is the proprietor.

The JUMP mentors, students, parent volunteers, and staff arrived at the Double H Ranch about 10:30 a.m. After a brief “Ranch Rules” session conducted by Simpson, groups of youth chaperoned by adults were dispersed to various venues on the ranch for horseback riding, roping, fishing, swimming, horse shoe throwing, and hoolahooping. It was too hot for the cowboy boot relay racing.

The Double H Ranch was equipped with a great outdoor kitchen area and huge grill for the hamburgers, hotdogs, lemonade, cookies, and chips.

Hudson, Simpson, and their partners assisted each rider in a professional manner. The horses were beautiful and performed masterfully in the heat. “It was an exciting and educational adventure for the JUMP youth; they enjoyed all of the activities, especially those that caught fish,” said Amethyst Wynn, coordinator.

JUMP extends a big “Thank you” to Horace Hudson of the Double “H” Ranch and to Marcie Simpson.
