RAYLE NEWS
The heat is the topic of conversation these days. Like Doe, I’m looking for the cool days of autumn. Mrs. Josephine Orr is right at home at Whispering Pines in Athens where they have been celebrating this month as luau month. Monday was a very special day in which the residents wore name tags in Hawaiian language and leis of flowers around their necks, and listened to Hawaiian music. The residents and their guests enjoyed a wonderful Hawaiian dinner of ham, yams, green beans, and lemonade with pineapple with a little umbrella in it for decoration. Josephine enjoys bingo, exercise classes, and artsand crafts opportunities at Whispering Pines. She also enjoys her visitors and getting cards at 100 East Paces Drive near Cedar Shoals High School in Athens. J.W. and I enjoyed going to Rock United Methodist Church homecoming Sunday. Rev. Mack Holloway, guest speaker, brought a heart-warming and inspiring sermon. The special singing was beautiful. We saw many friends and neighbors whom we hadn’t seen in a long time. We were glad to see our special friends, Mrs. Katie Sherrer Goolsby and Mrs. Georgia Sherrer Wade of Watkinsville. Mrs. Lucile Edmonds of Anderson, S.C., spent from Thursday to Monday with her sister, Mrs. Doris Walker. J.W. and I enjoyed going to a class reunion of the 50th year of the school in Lexington of the first five classes of the high school of which I was a member of the 1956 graduating class. We saw many people we had not seen in a long time, many we had not seen since 1956. About 250 class members of those five years and their spouses attended. We enjoyed touring the newly renovated school, renewing friendships, delicious hors d’ oeuvres during the afternoon, getting class pictures made, the welcome by Dr. Jeff Welch, superintendent of schools, presentation of a gift to the school, memorial service, alma mater led by former cheerleaders, recognition of veterans, Pledge of Allegiance led by Harvard Hopkins, blessing by Robert McCannon, dinner catered by Countryside Catering, door prizes, moments to remember followed by music and dancing. The lunchroom and party areas were decorated with flowers, balloons, and lots of memorabilia. Some were dressed in 1950s clothes. Our prayers are still with Mrs. Ann Williamson and her son, Seba, who are both having treatment for cancer. Some days are very rough for them and they appreciate all that has been done for them.
