Morrisons excited about anniversary celebration Sunday
Morrison and I and our children, Mary Jane Scarborough, 37, and Lee Nash Maxwell, 33, and eight year old grandson, Tyler Maxwell Scarborough, are all excited about our upcoming 50th golden wedding anniversary this Sunday afternoon, August 28, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church where we both grew up and got married. The hours are from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
We welcome all friends over the years and relatives who are able to join us for this special occasion. We feel so blessed. No gifts. Your presence will be a great gift to remember.
We so happen to be the third generation on my side of the family to be blessed to celebrate 50 years. Forty years ago in October, my parents, the late Emmett Lyle “Em.L” Johnson and Martha Jane “Mattie” Sherrer Johnson of Phillips Mill, celebrated their 50th at our home on the Greensboro Road, with 147 people attending.
Back when I was a little girl I well remember attending the 50th anniversary of my mother’s parents, the late William Hill “Will” Sherrer and Mary Lou “Mamie” Nash Sherrer of Carters Grove Baptist Church and community.
I remember it being a barbecue cooked by my uncle, Burl Johnson, who was a twin to my aunt Bertha who married my mother’s first cousin, the late Charlie Rives, who was also first cousin o Burl’s wife Genie, Mattie’s sister. Mr. and Mrs. Rives were parents of Rosalyn (Mrs. Carl) Adams of Washington. Rosalyn and children, Dan, Lynn, and Charlotte, were the first ones to sign my parents’ anniversary guest book which we also plan to use. The anniversary was held October 13, 1915.
I will be 70 Monday, August 29. Thanks to all our friends who are helping our children with the celebration.
