The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday, October 13, 2 p.m., at the Courthouse.

Washington Connections Premier Show and Sale of Original Art is set for Saturday and Sunday, November 5-6, on The Square in Downtown Washington. Free to the public.

The 2005 Silent Auction for the benefit of the building fund of the W-W Humane Shelter Association will be held at the Pope Community Center on Lexington Avenue, Friday, November 18, 79:30 p.m. Bidding closes at 9 p.m. Admission is free. There will be free refreshments and lots of great items (usually at bargain prices) await lucky winning bidders.

Neal Beard, second pastor of Victory Baptist Church, will be the speaker at Victory Baptist church for services on November 27. Pastor Beard was scheduled to participate in the recent homecoming at Victory but was unable to do so because of the health problem.

A blood drive to benefit the victims of the hurricanes will be held in Wilkes County on November 3. Time and place will be announced later.

Heard’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a men and women’s day program on Sunday, November 13, 3 p.m. The guest church will be New Salem Baptist Church, Rev. R.L. Reynolds, pastor. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.

The Wilkes County Health Department Board of Directors will meet Friday, October 14, 11 a.m., at the health department on Gordon Street.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet Monday, October 17, 7:30 p.m.

Lafayette Lodge #23, F&AM, at 205 E. Liberty St., will have a regular communication and confer the Entered Apprentice Degree on Thursday, October 13, 7:30 p.m. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The Word Bible Study Class is sponsoring an outreach service entitled “Lord, Please Save Our Children,” Sunday, October 16, 3 p.m., at the Third Shiloh Baptist Mission Center, 219 McLendon Drive.

The W-W Humane Shelter is raffling a quilt made by Pat James to benefit the Shelter’s spay-neuter program. The quilt features pictures of dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies, and will be given away at the Rayle Ramble. Tickets are $1 each.

Tabor Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, October 16, beginning with singing at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. Revival services will be held Sunday through Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m., with a different speaker each service.

Beulah Volunteer Fire Department is having a chicken barbecue Saturday, October 22, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

The W-W Elementary School Council will meet Thursday, October 13, 6 p.m., in the school conference room.

Flu shots will be available at the Wilkes County Health Department, Gordon Street, Washington, beginning Thursday, October 13. Hours are 8 a.m.-12 p.m; 1-4 p.m.

The Wilkes County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Board of Directors will meet Tuesday, October 18, 10 a.m., at the Edward B. Pope Community Center, Lexington Avenue.

The Christian Service Organization of Fishing Creek Baptist Church will have a Country Cooking Supper at the church on Saturday, October 22, 6-8:30 p.m. Plates are $6 each. All proceeds go to charity.

The St. Luke Baptist Church, Metasville Road, Lincolnton, will have a centennial celebration on Sunday, October 16, 2:30 p.m. Rev. W.R. Ferrell of Washington will be the guest speaker. Dinner will be served.

The Friends of the Mary Willis Library will meet Thursday, October 13, 3 p.m., at the library.

Learning In Retirement (LIR) will meet Monday, October 17, 2 p.m., at the Episcopal Parish House, and hear Skeet Willingham speak on Wilkes County tourist sites.

The Pilot Club of Washington will sponsor a spaghetti supper fundraiser on Saturday, October 22, 5-7 p.m., in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church. Tickets are $5 each for eat-inor take-out and may be obtained from any Pilot Club member.

New Saints CME Church, 515 Baltimore Rd., Washington, will have SNAP meeting Saturday, October 22, 10 a.m. Members and those who would like to join are encouraged to attend.

The regular Shepeard Community Blood Drive sponsored by Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be held on November 17, 2-7 p.m., at the Pope Community Center on Lexington Avenue. Other blood drives announced for the area are extra and not a replacement for the regular drive.

The public is invited to the Civil War Round Table of Washington meeting October 24 at Watchmaker’s restaurant with dinner at 6 p.m. for $10 per person. Lyonsville Baptist Church will celebrate its 130th anniversary Sunday, October 23, 3 p.m., with Rev. Richardson, pastor of Clifford Grove Baptist Church, Rayle, as guest speaker. The choir will render the music.

White Rock Baptist Church, Lincolnton, will recognize the accomplishments of its students on Sunday, October 23, 10:15 a.m., during the regular worship service. Minister Brian Ware of Atlanta will be the guest speaker.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church will celebrate its 134th anniversary Sunday, October 23, 2 p.m., with Rev. R.L. Reynolds, pastor of the New Salem Baptist Church, as the speaker.

White Rock Baptist Church Gospel Choir will begin the fall revival services at the church on Sunday, October 23, 3 p.m., by celebrating its 46th anniversary. Revival services will begin Monday, October 24, and continue through Wednesday, October 26, 7:30 p.m., with Rev. Steve Berry, pastor of the New Exodus Baptist Church, Hephzibah, as guest speaker.

The 10th District General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia is sponsoring a Cluster Revival, Cluster #4, consisting of Wilkes, Lincoln, and Taliaferro counties. Gibson Grove Baptist Church will celebrate the fourth anniversary of the pastor on Sunday, November 6, 11:30 a.m. Pastor L.V. Turman and Faith Christian Center will be in charge of the service.

Young people will be speaking, singing, and dancing; a movie will be shown; board games will be available, along with deli treats and generous candy bags.

The Springfield Community Mass Choir will celebrate its 137th anniversary Sunday, October 16, at the church. Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the program at 3 p.m.
