The Annual Nancy C. Long Walk of Hope will be held on The Square in Downtown Washington on Friday, November 4, beginning at 6 p.m.

The annual fund-raiser to benefit cancer research is sponsored by Eta Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi each year in memory of Nancy Callaway Long, who died August 27, 2002, at the age of 42, after a valiant battle with cancer.

The public is invited to join Beta Sigma Phi members and “walk or watch for a cure.” Luminaries will be placed around The Square and lighted to honor cancer victims and survivors.

Contributions may be given to any sorority member or mailed to the sorority treasurer, Joan Geddings, c/ o Farmers and Merchants Bank, P.O. Box 280, Washington, Ga. 30673.

All proceeds support local cancer funds and the American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer Research program. A percentage of funds raised during this drive will be sent to the American Cancer Society earmarked for breast cancer research, and monies are also used for a local cancer fund and Wills Memorial Hospital.

The sorority has voted to continue its annual support of the Cancer Relief Fund established by Bunny Boyd, a cancer survivor. The fund assists local cancer victims.

One of the services provided is gas to enable patients to travel to and from treatments. Due to the tremendous rise in gas prices and a request from Mrs. Boyd, the chapter voted to increase its contribution and hold additional funds in reserve to help with emergency needs of the relief fund.
