Courtground School reunion held Sunday at schoolhouse

2005-10-13 / News

The Courtground School Reunion was held Sunday with a covered dish dinner at 1 p.m. The pretty little schoolhouse sits in the fork of Courtground Road and SissonBridges Road.

Ferns and flowers were used in decorating. The tables were covered with red and white checked cloths. Candelabra made by the Rayle Lunch and Learn Club were in the center of each table.

After the blessing by Rev. Lawrence Griffith everyone enjoyed barbecue, stew, fried chicken, roast pork, many vegetables, casseroles and salads. Homemade cakes and pies were plentiful. Tea and bread were also served.

After the dinner, a wonderful program of music and singing was presented by Rachel Eberhart and Danny Crider. They are from the Enterprise community of Oglethorpe County and Burt’s United Methodist Church. Rachel played the harp, mandolin, and accordion during the afternoon. She started by playing “Whispering Hope” on the harp and singing many other songs beautifully. Mike sang two songs with her accompanying him. They have recordings of songs they have written and have tapes.

Approximately 45 people who had some connection to the school came for the celebration. These are the ones who signed the guest book: Miriam Durham, Melba Durham, Melvin Durham, Rev. Stephen Rayner, Steve Rayner, Talitha Wheatley Hopkins, James Sherrer, Samille Branham Sherrer, Warren Newsome, Ann Buff Newsome, Billy Joe Goldman, Sandy Power Goldman, Susie Sherrer Powel, LeRoy Norris, Lauren Nash, Beverly Nash, Sara Nell McAvoy Baynham, Willie McAvoy Roberson, Dale McAvoy James, Mamie Ruth Nash Cason, Henry McAvoy, Faye Sisson McAvoy, Rev.
