Wasn’t the rain nice? I enjoyed it so much. I just had to get out in it a little. It stopped just in time for Mule Day. It turned out to be a good day. Fred Corbett and I went out on the town Saturday morning in Washington. We went to the post office, CVS, Ingles, and Fred’s. Ann rested at home while we were gone. J.W. visited her. Pentecost Chapel is sponsoring a benefit soup supper with many trimmings Saturday evening, October 15, at 6 p.m. There will also be singing right there in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the fellowship. The church is located on the Stevens Grove Road. Turn at Hogan’s Store, half way between Rayle and Lexington. You will not want to miss it. Sunday morning I went to Beaverdam Baptist Church. It was a good service. Rev. Jim Edwards brought a good message after the Sunday School lesson by Leeman Stewart. We sang some pretty songs with Leeman leading. Mrs. Ann Corbett is about the same. She has bad days and good days. Visitors to see her and Fred have been Nina Boatwright, J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Barry Echols, Ruth Flynt, Douglas and Elaine Mathews, and Lawson Owen, Danny and Beverly Corbett, Shirley Bufford, Tom Hardy, Billy and Esther Dawson, Richard and Betty Byrd and Peggy Callaway. Please keep them in your prayers at this difficult time. Rev. John Mark Carpenter brought an inspiring message Sunday morning at Sardis Baptist Church. Sunday evening, Family Night was held with mission meetings after the meal. Our prayers are with Rev. Carpenter as he had to return to his home in Gainesville right after the service Sunday morning after becoming ill. He was resting at his home Sunday evening when Pam Hall called and talked to Betty. He was planning to go to the doctor Monday morning. Little two-week-old Bryson Lamar Porter went to church at Sardis Sunday morning with his mother, Brooke Berry, and sister, Kaitlyn, for the very first time. Sunday afternoon I went to the Courtground School Reunion and had a great time with good food, great music, and singing by Rachel Eberhart and Danny Crider. If you have never heard them you have missed a treat. I was glad to see many people that I hardly ever see. Rocky Nation was 16 on his birthday Thursday, October 6, and for his dinner he wanted deer steaks. So his grandmother, Shirley Chafin, made him a nice deer steak meal with all the trimmings which he enjoyed along with his family. Celebrating with him were Troy and Shirley Chafin, Alfredo and T erri Chafin Diaz, Antonio Diaz, Mack Chafin, Ronnie, Shelia Chafin Arnold and Blake, Mary Young, Willard, Dianna, Jonathon and Dallas Queen and two of Rocky’s friends, Josh and Justin. Faye Johnson of Gray has been here visiting and is also not doing well. Please keep them in your prayers. Tina Boatwright, Nina Boatwright, and Dianne Bufford went to Athens Saturday where they spent most of the day. They enjoyed eating at the Olive Garden. Bill Caldwell, Nina Boatwright’s uncle, fell and broke his hip and is in Eisenhower Hospital in Augusta. Please remember him in your prayers. Ed Crook is doing better and after more tests the doctors found that he does not have a recurrence of cancer. But the mass is calcium deposits built up that were the cause of his problem. Please remember him in your prayers also because he is still having trouble walking. Our prayers are with our neighbor, Joann Perez, who had double heart by-pass surgery last Wednesday. She is in the University Hospital in Augusta at this writing. Her daughter, Cindy, of Bangs, Texas, has been here with her. Please remember her in your prayers. Gloria Wheatley has been in an Athens hospital, but is much better and hopes to come home soon. Our prayers are with her.
