Nathaniel Booker
Funeral services for Nathaniel Booker, 82, of Washington were held Sunday, October 9, 2005, at Zoah Church, Amity Road, Washington, with Rev. George Booker officiating. Burial was in City West Cemetery, Washington. He died Tuesday, October 4.
Mr. Booker was the son of the late Patrick Booker and Mary Remson Booker and the widower of Hattie P. Asbury. He attended Wilkes County schools and served in the United States Army 506th Port Battalion from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. His tour of duty took him to the Philippines. He received several decorations and citations, including the World War II Victory Medal; Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68; Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars; and the Philippine Liberator Ribbon with one Bronze Star. Ten years after his return from the service of his country, he opened his first business and became an independent businessman for the remainder of his life. He was a member of Zoah Church and gave generously of his time and resources to other churches in the county.
Survivors include five children, Dr. Mary Booker Ware, Nathaniel Booker Jr., Betty J. Davis, Mamie L. Booker, and Willie C. Booker; several grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Moore, and Mamie Gresham.
Grandsons served as pallbearers and included Gregory Booker, Randall Booker, Terrence Booker, Willie C. Booker Jr., David Chapman, and Christopher McCrary. Granddaughters served as flower ladies and included Donna Chapman, Karen L. Davis, Jonalyn W. Greene, Jennifer W. McCrary, Marcia D. Ware, Angela Booker, Connie Booker, Jessica P. Booker, Monique Booker, and Pattie Booker.
McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
