A blood drive to benefit the victims of the hurricanes will be held in Wilkes County on November 3. Time and place will be announced later.
The 2005 Silent Auction for the benefit of the building fund of the W-W Humane Shelter Association will be held at the Pope Community Center on Lexington Avenue, Friday, November 18, 79:30 p.m. Bidding closes at 9 p.m. Admission is free. There will be free refreshments and lots of great items (usually at bargain prices) await lucky winning bidders.
Neal Beard, second pastor of Victory Baptist Church, will be the speaker at Victory Baptist church for services on November 27. Pastor Beard was scheduled to participate in the recent homecoming at Victory but was unable to do so because of the health problem.

The Optimist Club Friend of Youth Auction and Barbecue will be held Thursday, November 10, at VFW Post 5899 on Andrew Drive. Barbecued pork catered by Frank Bentley will be available for eat-in or take-out at 5 p.m. Cost is $7 per plate. The auction will begin at 7:00.
The Washington-Wilkes Community Thanksgiving Service will be held Sunday, November 20, at 7 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, with John Via from the Church of the Mediator bringing the message.
Wilkes Ministers United will sponsor a Fifth Sunday Night Service on October 30, 7 p.m., at the Washington Presbyterian Church. Patrick Owens will deliver the message.
The First United Methodist Men will have its annual chicken barbecue Saturday, November 5, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Cost is $6. Plates will be available for dinein or carry-out.
The Washington Shrine club will sponsor a dance on Saturday, November 5, at the WashingtonWilkes Country Club, at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per couple; $16 for sings, and proceeds will benefit the Shriners Hospital.
Mark Chapman, a gospel singer from Ohio, will be in concert at Vesta Baptist Church Sunday, October 30, 11 a.m. The church is located on Georgia Highway 77 between Elberton and Lexington.
Clifford Grove Baptist Church, Rayle, will have an installation service for Rev. A.J. Richards on Sunday, November 20, 3 p.m., with Rev. Stephen B. Hall of Athens as the speaker.
A men’s breakfast will be held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church Saturday, October 29, at 8 a.m. There is no charge.
A fifth Sunday night singing service will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church Sunday, October 30, 7 p.m. Individuals and groups who would like to participate are welcome, and should contact Rhonda Roberson at 678-1444. There will also be congregational singing. The service is open to the public without charge.
The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation will meet Sunday, November 6, 2:30 p.m., in the Mary Willis Library. Charlotte Ford will be speaking on Fanny Andrews. The public is invited.
Hopkins Funeral Home will host a special Holiday Memorial Program at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at the First United Methodist Church. After a practical presentation on coping with grief during the holidays, loved ones will be honored by the lighting of candles. The evening will end with a reception in the church fellowship hall.
The Sharon-Raytown Garden Club Flower Show will be held November 5 and 6 at the Community House in Sharon. Theme for this year is “Salute to Autumn.” The show is free and open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. each day. Light refreshments will be served.

The W-W Humane Shelter is raffling a quilt made by Pat James to benefit the Shelter’s spay-neuter program. The quilt features pictures of dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies, and will be given away at the Rayle Ramble. Tickets are $1 each.
To provide a “hallowed Christian experience,” not Halloween, Transforming Life Ministries will sponsor a “Hallowed Be Thy Name” youth worship service on Sunday, October 30, 4 p.m., at the Third Shiloh Center. Young people will be speaking, singing, and dancing; a movie will be shown; board games will be available, along with deli treats and generous candy bags.
