Volunteers needed to decorate rooms at Callaway Plantation
The annual Christmas at Callaway Plantation will be held on Friday, December 9, from 5 until 8 p.m.
Barbara Burns is chairman of Christmas at Callaway 2005 and is seeking volunteers for decorating rooms in the many buildings in the complex. Cedar, holly, smilax, magnolia, and mistletoe from the woods around Callaway Plantation will be provided by the city to assist volunteers in their decorating.
Persons decorating are reminded to decorate in the time period of the site which they are decorating. Buildings and their time periods are listed here:
Brick House, 1869; Grey House, 1790; Log Cabin, 1785; Country Store, 1930; Dally Cabin, 1840; Gilmer House, 1808; Weaving and Ironing House, 1840; and School house, 1891.
Building assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis. Reservations for buildings or rooms can be made by calling the plantation at 678-7060.
Decorating will begin on December 6 and continue through December 8. Volunteers should call the plantation to confirm their assignment.
Donations of red or white candles (12"); dark green silk garlands; ribbon (red, gold, white, blue); bow maker; glass or brass candleholders (pairs); poinsettias; gold spray paint (non-metallic); florist wire; picks; silver or gold glitter; and Elmer’s Glue, will be appreciated.
