DAR members hear program on early American painting

Thad Broome was guest speaker at the meeting of the Kettle Creek Chapter NSDAR on Monday, October 17, at the Woman’s Club in Washington.

Mr. Broome, an expert on paints and coatings, gave a presentation from a paper that he co-authored titled “Structural Painting in Early America.” He identified the components of paints and offered samples of various paints and whitewashes for members to compare. He also discussed house painting in Colonial America and spoke about the difficulties of reproducing early American colors.

Mr. Broome graduated with a Bachelor in Science in Chemistry from Georgia State University in Atlanta and is retired from J.M. Huber Corporation. After his retirement from Huber in l999, he and his wife, the former Ginny Beazley, founded Southern Exposure and Consulting, LLC. They moved back home on July 1, 2004, to live with her mother, Mrs. Grace Beazley, in the Carter’s Grove community of Taliaferro County.

Mrs. Beazley was a guest with her husband at the meeting.

Mrs. Marvin McAvoy, first vicepresident, presided.

Hostesses were Mrs. Charlie Jordan, chairman, Mrs. Jim Roberts and Mrs. Robert Dinneweth.

A business meeting followed the program.
