Beazley descendants meet October 15 at homeplace
The descendants of Claude and Mary Ella Cannon Beazley met Saturday, October 15, at the FlukerBeazley homeplace in Carters Grove. The year 2005 marked the l05th anniversary of their marriage.
Everyone enjoyed pork and chicken barbecue prepared by Frank Bentley. In addition to the barbecue, the children enjoyed chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, hash brown casserole and other family favorites. A table of desserts included German chocolate cake, pound cake, brownies, potato pie, pecan pie and dried apple pie with egg custard topping.
Before and after lunch the guests enjoyed hay rides on a farm trailer pulled by the newly-restored l952 model Ford 8N tractor. The children rode on a go-cart, four-wheelers and little red wagons. Also, the children enjoyed playground equipment including swings, a seesaw and a wave slide.
During the afternoon the 43 guests gathered in the living room of the two hundred plus year-old home for a time of sharing. The grandchildren introduced themselves and members of their families. Each told some remembrance of their grandmother, Mary Ella, and what they recalled about the place and visiting there as children.
A drawing was held for a table constructed from an old sewing machine base topped with pine boards recovered from the homestead during its recent restoration. The table was made and refinished by Thad and Ginny Broome. Rebecca Beazley was the lucky winner.
Those attending were Grace Beazley, the widower of Guy Fluker Beazley, her daughter, Virginia (Ginny) Beazley Broome and sonin law, Thad Broome, their children and families, Thad and Anna Broome Jr., Brittany and Lindsey, and Ben and Kelley Broome and Guy Morgan.
Son Harold Lunsford and wife, Frances represented the family of Kitty Clyde Beazley Lunsford with their son and family, Ken and Rosie Lunsford, Trevor and Matthew.
His son, Carl Douglas Beazley and wife, Betty, represented Carl Harris Beazley.
Mary Maude Beazley Bunch was represented by her daughter, Marilyn Hursey, and Mrs. Hursey’s daughter and granddaughter, Lynn Ellis and Tara Thomason; also Mrs. Hursey’s friend, Arthur Burdette.
All the descendants of Sue Queen Beazley Combs attended. They were daughter, Susan Combs Aldrich, her son and daughter-in-law, Marion Farmer and Diana Combs Jr., and family, Phillip and Dawn Combs, Walker and Isaac, and Alexandria Combs, who, from Palo Alto, Calif., was noted to have traveled the farthest to attend.
Both children of Emma Claude Beazley Flynt, William Guy Flynt Jr. and Emily Flynt, were present.
Two sons and one daughter and their families represented Billy Bowdoin Beazley, the youngest son of Claude and Mary Ella Beazley. Son Jim, and Elizabeth Beazley were joined by daughters and family, Bill and Jennifer Trotter and Bill and Matt and Rebecca Sterner and Matt. Son, Tom and Nancy Beazley were accompanied by children and family, Chuck and Amanda Pittman and Matthew Beazley. Daughter, Dr. Deborah Beazley, was also present.
The families of Lucy Beazley Poss, Robert Harold Beazley, Tom Curtis Beazley and Hazel Beazley Wallace were unable to attend.
Special guests were Roddy and Barbara McCommons and Dottie Hodges.
