I am finally getting the fall weather that I have been looking forward to. We have had our heaters going and our flannel shirts on. It is the time of year that I love best. Raking leaves can be a chore, but not much grass cutting. All eyes are on Wilma. Halloween decorations are everywhere. Please be very careful on Halloween and watch out for the little children. Red or yellow, black or white, they are precious in his sight. Our sweet Ann has been in the hospital. She went Friday by ambulance to Thomson. She is better at this writing and is coming home today, Monday. Please remember her, Fred, Barry, Dana and Parker, and all of us in your thoughts and prayers. We have appreciated your many acts of love and are so thankful to all of you. The Rayle Ramble was a great success Saturday with a large crowd attending. Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter came and enjoyed the Rayle Ramble Saturday. He is feeling much better. They enjoyed Sunday dinner after church with Mr. and Mrs. Lyn Armour and family. Jack Armour was also there. Rev. and Mrs. Carpenter attended the reception at the First Baptist Church, Washington, in the afternoon, honoring Dr. and Mrs. John Childers, Amy, and Jennifer, before they leave for their new pastorate in St. Louis, MO. Sunday, October 30, members of Sardis Baptist Church are asked to bring treat bags for 25 children who will be at choir practice that evening at 6 p.m. If you would like, you can bring the treats on Sunday morning to be given to the children that evening. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. with worship service at 11 a.m. Evening service is at 7 p.m. Rev. John Mark Carpenter is interim pastor of the church. A big happy birthday to Mitch Davis who turned 16 Friday and got his driver’s license. A big birthday supper and party were held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyn Armour, with about 36 relatives attend. A big happy birthday to Larry Fleming who celebrated his 46th birthday Sunday, October 23.

Lindley Hall and Cody Armour played in the state softball tournament in Hampton Friday and Saturday. Boyce Hall, Greg Armour, Buck Echols, and Clyde Whittington went Friday to watch the games. On Saturday, Neil Wilson and Keaton Wilson went to watch the girls play. Some of the ladies were getting things ready for the Rayle Ramble. Mrs. Sandy Whittington and Avery Hall spent Friday night in Crawford with Mr. and Ms. Neil Frankel, Zachery and Kyle. Mrs. Vickie Sisson received good news in that her illness is not leukemia or cancer as was at first thought. She is scheduled for a bone test and is optimistic that the doctors think they know what the trouble is and can treat it. Our thoughts and prayers are with her as she goes through this test. Vickie is the wife of Carl Sisson Jr. and daughter-in-law of Mrs. Mildred Sisson. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Mary Stewart of Washington who is scheduled for evaluation today (Monday) for an enlarged thyroid. The doctors are going to be looking at x-rays to see what to do. Casey Davis sang The National Anthem as the flag was being raised at the opening of the Rayle Ramble Saturday. Casey is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyn Armour. Mrs. Lyn Armour, Mrs. John Armour, and Mason and Cody, Hunter and Jackson Armour, enjoyed going to the Halloween carnival at Burts United Methodist Church Saturday evening. Mrs. Nina Boatwright enjoyed having her son, Randy Boatwright, attend church with her Sunday at Sardis Baptist Church. After church he enjoyed dinner with Charles and Nina. Carmen Boatwright and Brandon Echols also had dinner with them. Mrs. Ann Williamson and Mrs. Sudie Kennedy went to the Country Cooking supper at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Saturday evening where they saw many friends and enjoyed some good food. A big dinner of barbecued pork, deer and chicken, and all the trimmings, was held at the home of Troy and Shirley Chafin and Haley Saturday. Mrs. Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed visiting Mrs. Ruth Flynt Sunday afternoon. We are sorry Mrs. Ruby Arnold has not been feeling well this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Owen of Rossman, N.C., were here to be with her over the weekend. Saturday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Winfrey visited Mildred Sisson, bearing goodies as usual, much-appreciated turnip greens this time. She says she was on the receiving end of giving this weekend.
