Dr. Sophia Bamford named Pilot Club 2005 Sweetheart
Dr. Sophia Bamford Dr. Sophia Bamford, much beloved resident of Tignall and member of the Pilot Club of Washington, Inc., has been named 2005 Pilot Club Sweetheart.
Dr. Bamford’s list of accomplishments in both the professional and civic fields are endless.
She has served faithfully in the Pilot Club and was president in l991-92 and l995-96. She has also held other offices and led many committees. Dr. Bamford was greatly instrumental in assisting the Club in receiving grants.
One of the hightlights of her Pilot work was a symposium she formed on brain disorders that was held at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School. She instigated an intense project under the heading of “The Haunting Riddle of Caring for the Human Body in a Hostile Environment.” This project was executed by the club with help from other organizations, societies, schools and community involvement groups in March l991. For her tireless work on this project, the club received the prestigious Award of Honor conferred by the Community Service Division of the National Safety Council. This award was presented in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Bamford, who at the time was the club’s safety and health projects chairman, traveled to Orlando, accompanied by then club president, Anna Cagle, to receive the award on behalf of her club.
Dr. Bamford also attended many conventions and workshops on the district and international levels and assisted in organizing the ThomsonMcDuffie Club in l992.
She was named Georgia Mother of the Year in l990.
In her dedication to the Pilot Club of Washington Dr. Bamford exemplifies the Pilot motto, “Service Above Self”. The members are deeply proud that she holds the honor of 2005 Pilot Club Sweetheart.
