Childers family guest of honor at First Baptist Church Oct. 23

Dr. and Mrs. John Murry Childers and daughters, Amy and Jennifer, were honored Sunday by the First Baptist Church in a reception in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall..

After serving at First Baptist for six years, Dr. Childers will be leaving Washington to become pastor of South County Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo., beginning his duties there November 1.

In honor of the occasion, Dr. Childers was presented a boutonniere of red roses and corsages of red roses were presented to Mrs. Childers, Amy and Jennifer.

As church members arrived they signed the register and greeted the family.

The fellowship hall held a profusion of ferns. Tables were overlaid in white with white skirting. A budvase of red roses, greenery and berries graced the register table.

The tea table centering the room held a large black footed urn of deep red roses, seed eucalyptus and berries.

Another area in the fellowship hall featured a video with pictures of Dr. Childers, his family and church members during different times of his ministry in Washington.

During the afternoon Dr. Childers was presented a memory book of cards, pictures and notes from the church family. The book was done by Kay Nelms, Sherree Bufford and Amy Johnston. A gift of appreciation had been presented him by Darrell Roth, chairman of the deacons. Other love offerings were also given.

Tea foods and punch were served during the afternoon.

About 250 church members and guests attended.
