RANDOM OBSERVATIONS ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Will someone out there please explain to me how Notre Dame can still be ranked in the Top 10 in the Nation having lost two ball games. Sure, they almost beat No. 1 Southern Cal.
Don’t forget, however, that the Irish were beaten by unranked Michigan State. Only Notre Dame would be voted into the Top 10 in this situation.
The BCS now ranks Texas ahead of Southern Cal. This debate will probably be settled in the Rose Bowl next January.
How good is Georgia without D.J. Shockley? We may be about to find out when the Dawgs face the Gators in Jacksonville Saturday.
Alabama is winning games the old fashioned way with DEFENSE. The Tide is now 7-0 and has survived key injuries to remain undefeated. Mike Shula is doing a splendid job in Tuscaloosa.
Speaking of doing a good job, Karl Dorrell has really turned things around at UCLA. Going almost unnoticed, the seventhranked Bruins are undefeated. UCLA quarterback Drew Olson and running back Maurice Drew would be legitimate Heisman contenders if they didn’t play in the same conference and city as USC’s Matt Leinart and Reggie Busch.
Thanks to all of the fans who participated in the “Best Traditions” poll. The Clemson tradition of rubbing Howard’s Rock & running down the hill tied for first with the UGA tradition of ringing the victory bell until midnight after a win. And by the way, a UGA win over Georgia Tech dictates that the victory bell be rung until dawn.
