Chamber’s annual meeting tonight will recognize outstanding citizens

A number of local individuals, organizations, and businesses will be honored tonight at the Washington Wilkes Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting and Dinner.

Awards for Big Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Citizen of the Year will be presented as part of the program. The dinner will be held at the Edward B. Pope Community Center, on Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. Reservations are needed by close of business Friday. “Our guest speaker for the evening will be the former Mayor Bob Young of Augusta,” said Chamber executive director Donna Hardy. “The program will begin with the Annual Meeting, where we’ll provide everyone with an overview of the year’s past events and our goals for the years to come.”

The Awards Ceremony will follow, she said, during which local businesses, individuals, and groups will be recognized for outstanding contributions to the community.

At least one special award will be presented tonight, Hardy said. “It’s a secret, though.”
