The W-W Tiger Cross-Country boys team and senior Nick Gorsuch ran to consecutive team and individual victories in the Region 7-A Championships held October 20 at A.H. Stephens State Park near Crawfordville. It was the team’s fourth straight region title and Gorsuch’s second.

In the boys’ race, Gorsuch ran the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes and 19 seconds (17:19). Taylor Echols finished second with a time of 18:34 for the second year in a row. It was the fourth straight year that Tiger runners have finished in the top two positions at the Cross-country region championship.

The top five finishers for each team determine the team score and for the Tigers that score was a 19. The next closest score was a 52 for Taliaferro Co., A.R. Johnson scored 95 points, and Warren Co. scored 105 points. The Tigers won the Region 7-AA title in 2002 and 2003 and the Region 7-A title in 2004 and now in 2005.

In the girls’ race, Kate Carey finished fourth with a time of 26:00. There were no other Lady Tiger runners and because Kate finished in the top six at region she qualified to compete at the state meet as an individual runner.

Each team was only allowed to have seven runners participate. Other schools included: A.R. Johnson of Augusta, Hancock Central, Taliaferro County, Warren County, and GMC.

The Tiger Cross-Country teams now get ready to run at the Class A state meet in Carrollton, Georgia, this Saturday, November 5. The boys will run at 8:30 a.m. with the girls right behind at 9 a.m. TIGERS HOST SIX-TEAM
