Surgical specialty clinic set for January opening
Wills Memorial Hospital and the Physicians Practice Group (PPG) of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) Health System have announced a partnership to establish a surgical specialty clinic in Washington. The clinic is being started to address some of the surgical needs of residents of Wilkes, Lincoln and Taliaferro Counties.
“We are excited about this developing relationship which will bring needed specialty services to the community,” said WMH Administrator Marvin Goldman. “It will also have a positive impact on our hospital and entire medical community.”
The clinic will be staffed by a variety of surgeons who are members of the MCG faculty and will be located in the Wilkes Specialty Clinic Building (formerly known as the Georgia Pines Building) on Hospital Drive. Goldman pointed out that “it is important to note that the physicians staffing the clinic will be senior faculty physicians, not residents.”
General surgery and urology will be the first specialties offered. Other specialties may be added in the future in response to demand from the community and our local physicians.
The clinic is scheduled to begin operation in early January and appointments can be made now through referral by a local physician or by calling 678-3247 directly, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Wills Memorial Hospital has enjoyed a supportive relationship with the MCG Health System for several years, according to Goldman. “We are now pleased to expand this relationship into clinical areas, enabling us to bring the services of nationally recognized physician specialists to our community,” he said.
