Optimists complete projects, donate over $7,000 for youth

The Optimist Club of Washington has completed two successful fundraisers.

The annual Friend of Youth Auction and Barbecue was held in November at VFW Post 5899 with Optimist Mark Walker serving as auctioneer.

Optimist Club members sold Frazer Fir Christmas trees from November 23 through December 4 at the C&K Services (old Boat Hill Marine property) on Robert Toombs Avenue. Optimist Member Kyle Brown drove to Cashiers, N.C., to pick up the beautiful trees.

Some trees are still available for purchase at Otter Creek Gardens on the Tignall Road and at Petal Pushers in Downtown Washington,

Club members express appreciation to everyone who participated in these annual fundraisers, with special appreciation to the VFW Post 5899, Frank Bentley Barbecue, C&K Services, and to everyone who purchased a Christmas tree and items at this year’s auction.

The money that was raised during the two annual events provide funds for the club’s many youth service projects during the year beginning October 1 and ending September 30.

Last year the Optimist Club of Washington donated more than $7,000 for the benefit of local youth.
