Funeral services for Herschel Emory West, 84, of Atlanta were held Thursday, December 1, 2005, at Embry Hills United Methodist Church, with Rev. W. Mark Sargent officiating. Interment was in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker. He died Tuesday, November 29.

Mr. West was a native of Taliaferro County, and was the son of the late Luther H. and Kate M. West. His adult life was in Atlanta. His career spanned 35 years with AT&T where he retired in 1981 as operations manager. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, and was an active member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church. He was the husband of Frances Brown West and the late Elena Sheldon West.

Survivors include his wife, Frances West, Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Emory and Kathy West, Conyers; two granddaughters and their husbands, Beth and Greg McCollough, Monroe, and Melissa and Stephen Bennett, Jersey-Social Circle; three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Sydney and Landon McCollough; a sister, Doris Walker, Jonesboro; two step-daughters, Judy Henry, Raleigh, N.C., and Susan Richards, Tampa, Fla.

Pallbearers included Greg McCollough, Stephen Bennett, Charles Walker, Joseph Walker, Clay Alford, and Carl Alford. Honorary pallbearers were Harding Sunday School Class members.
