Funeral services for Mattie Lee Mahoney Jenkins, 60, were held Monday, December 12, 2005, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Metasville, with Rev. Luther Mahoney Jr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mahoney was the ninth of twelve children born to the late Earnest and Julia Mahoney. Following high school graduation, she attended Beaumont School of Nursing in Atlanta where she completed requirements in the Licensed Practical Nursing program. She was employed with Northwest Airlines in New York City in 1969 and was one of the first African Americans to secure this position. She retired as a reservationist after 32 years in January 2001, in Tampa. Fla.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Jenkins; two daughters, Kioka Walcott and Twauana Crew; a stepdaughter, Tracy Martin; five grandchildren, Mykal Alexyss Crew, Mattisyn Jaid Crew, Malachi Gabriel Jenkins Crew, Whittany Martin, and Brandi Joyner; and seven sisters, Josephine, Alleen, Elease Annie Lee, Robyn Mae, Margree, and Barbara Ann.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of local arrangements.
