Troopers tell of relief efforts

Georgia State Patrol Lt. Donnie Smith (right), accompanied by Sr. Patrolman Tommy Crafton (left), presented a program on Hurricane Katrina disaster relief to the Washington Kiwanis Club at its regular Tuesday lunch meeting on January 3. He told about some of his experiences as one of 103 law enforcement personnel from Georgia who responded to the governor’s call to assist with relief efforts in the devastated areas. In all, 42 Georgia troopers spent 14 days on site following the hurricane. Lt. Smith, who is president of the Washington Rotary Club, was introduced by Mandy Whisnant, program chairman for the day.
