Everything is but a warmup until region competition begins and both the Washington-Wilkes Tiger boys and girls basketball teams made it count when it mattered on Tuesday night.

In Taliaferro County for the first region games of the season, both Tiger teams came away with impressive wins. The Ladies, winless prior to the game, slaughtered Taliaferro 64-27, and the boys came on right behind to win the evening’s second game 67-52.

For the girls, Jaleesa Hampton led the way with 16 points but nipping at her heels was Mawanua Ware with 15. Diundra Doughty had nine points and six other lady Tigers had four each. The Ladies also combined for 11 out of 16 from the free throw line.

Scott Checki led the boys with an impressive 22 points and 12 rebounds. Larry Davis and Lucious Stewart wach had 13.

This Friday, the teams return home for what promises to be a tough pair of games against the Fighting Irish of Aquinas High School. B-team games begin at 4 p.m.

A road trip to region favorite Hancock Central rounds out the week’s games on Saturday with B-teams beginning at 3 p.m.
