Criminal convictions released from Wilkes Co. Superior Court sessions
The results of the most recent proceedings of the Wilkes County Superior Court, Judge Harold A. Hinesley presiding, as compiled by Clerk of the Superior Court Mildred Peeler, are as follows:
In a jury trial, Willie Young was found guilty on one charge of VGCSA possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He was sentenced to 25 years, with 12 years in confinement and the balance on probation. He was fined $10,000 and ordered to take the court’s drug package.
Curtis Ferrell Jr. and Carlos Hamrick, arrested in March for possession with intent to distribute both cocaine and marijuana, pleaded guilty. Ferrell was sentenced to 10 years with two years in confinement for each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. He was also fined $1,500 and charges.
Hamrick was also sentenced to 10 years, with two years in confinement, for possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He was sentenced to 10 years probation for the marijuana charge, and was given five years probation to run consecutively for a charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Judge Hinesley told Hamrick that getting his GED was a condition of his parole.
Frankie L. Smith, pleaded guilty on one count of felony theft by deception, was sentenced to 15 years, with eight years confinement and the balance on probation. Smith must also pay $1,000 and $1,400 restitution to the victim.
In a second case, Smith pleaded guilty to one charge of financial identity fraud and was sentenced to eight years confinement with credit for time served since his initial arrest.
Jarvis J. Turner pleaded guilty to one count VGCSA possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He was sentenced to eight years, with one year in confinement, the balance on probation. Judge Hinesley ordered Turner to comply with the drug package, pay $1,500 fine and other charges. He also ordered him to get his GED and stay away from “The Corner.”
Michael Wayne Washam pleaded guilty to one count of theft by receiving stolen property, and was sentenced to 10 years, with four in confinement, to run concurrently with his existing sentence, with credit for time served. As a condition of probation, Judge Hinesley told Washam to pay restitution in the amount of $3,192.05, and to get his GED.
Johnny W. Wilkinson pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol. Since it was his third DUI, Judge Hinesley sentenced him to 12 months, with 15 days in confinement and credit for time served. In addition, Wilkinson must pay a $1,000 fine, use an ignition interlock device, attend driving school, and do 30 days community service.
Tammy O. Tatum pleaded guilty to a bad check charge and was sentenced to six months probation, pay restitution, a fine and probation support fee.
Howard Fayne Edwards pleaded guilty to one count of theft by taking and was sentenced to 12 months probation, to pay $250 fine and other charges, to pay restitution, and to enter and complete an alcohol abuse program.
In a second case, Edwards pleaded guilty to two other charges of theft by taking. On the first charge, he was sentenced to 12 months probation to run consecutively with the previous sentence. On the second charge, he was sentenced to 12 months probation to run concurrently.
Michael Osborne pleaded guilty to one charge of damaging and tampering with property of public service providers. He was sentenced to 12 months probation, to pay $265 restitution to REA, and fined $500 plus other charges and probation fees.
James Jenkins was found not guilty to DUI charges, but was found guilty of one count of failure to maintain lane and driving without a license. He was sentenced to 12 months probation, fined $500 on the license charge and $125 on the traffic charge, plus other charges.
Edward S. Bowman pleaded guilty to one count of failure to maintain a lane. He was sentenced to six months probation plus a $125 fine and other charges.
Jan Elaine Mays pleaded guilty to one charge of driving without a valid driver’s license. She was sentenced to six months probation, to be suspended on the payment of $125 fine.
Temon Williams pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and one charge of unlawful sound volume from a vehicle. For the DUI, he was sentenced to 12 months probation with 24 hours in confinement, and given a $400 fine. He was required to attend driving school and do 20 hours of community service. On the second charge, he was sentenced to 12 months probation to run concurrently.
Kristine Wilkinson pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was sentenced to 12 months probation, a $450 fine and other charges. She must do 20 hours community service and attend driving school.
Sherman Blackmon was found guilty by the court of one count of VGCSA possession of marijuana. He was sentenced to 12 months probation and fined $500 plus other charges. He was ordered to take the drug package and to stay away from the Rusher Street area.
Ramon H. Barnes pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, and to one charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. On the first charge, he was sentenced to 12 month probation with 72 hours in confinement, a $600 fine and other charges, to complete driver’s school and drug and alcohol treatment, and to do 30 days community service. His license plates were ordered confiscated and his car fitted with an ignition interlock. On the license charge, he was sentenced to 12 months probation to run consecutively, plus a $500 fine and other charges.
Stacey Briscoe pleaded guilty to one charge of VGCSA misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and was sentenced to 12 months probation, fined $500 and other charges. The judge ordered Briscoe to take the drug package and drug and alcohol counseling.
