Waters will speak in Greensboro

Dr. Mark Waters of WashingtonWilkes will be the guest speaker at the Greensboro Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) on Sunday, January 22.

Dr. Waters will speak on “The Disposition of the Confederate Treasury and Virginia Bank Assets.” His presentation will track these assets from Richmond, Va., beginning on April 2, 1865, to Washington, Ga., to Augusta, Ga., to Washington, Ga., to Abbeville, S.C., and finally ending up in Washington, Ga., on May 4, 1865. The midnight raid near Chennault on May 24, 1865, will also be discussed.

Dr. Waters is a member of the Georgia Historical Society Speakers Bureau, Savannah, and a life member of the Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation.

Visitors are welcomed at the meeting which will be in the fellowship hall of the Episcopal Church, 202 North Main Street, Greensboro, at 3 p.m. Entrance to the fellowship hall is from East North Street.
