The community extends sympathy to the family of Gene Parker. He will be missed by so many people in this county. Sympathy is also extended to the family of Henry Clark Walton. Many of you may know his sister, Mrs. Marie Bradley, who resides at Harpers Personal Care Home. Rev. Donnie Berry of Mallorysville Baptist Church was featured in the January issue of The Christian Index in an article about bivocational pastors. In the picture with him are Connie Campbell and Marsha Scott from Lincolnton. Rev. Berry has worked at the Department of Family and Children Services in Lincolnton and Crawfordville and now is working at the DFCS in the area of Greene and Oconee counties. Rev. James Bowen, another Wilkes Countian, was also mentioned in this article. Rev. Bowen is pastor of the Siloam Baptist Church. The Women’s Bible Study at Mallorysville Baptist Church has been studying “Beloved Disciple” by Beth Moore, about the life and ministry of John. The Independence United Methodist Women met January 9. Sarah Davis, president, presided. Members present were Mrs. Davis, Sophia Bamford, Mae Butler, Sara Derrick, Becky Dixon, Susan Mason, Louise Smith, and Mildred Tyler. After the business meeting, Mrs. Tyler, program chairman, gave an inspiring program on prayer. The town of Tignall welcomes two new residents to the community. Mrs. Juanita Parker has bought and remodeled the Curtis Dunaway home on South Hulin Avenue. She plans on moving into the house in the next week or two. Mrs. Parker is moving here from Stockbridge. She has lived in the Stockbridge area all her life, but says, “I was ready to get out of that rat race!” Mrs. Parker has five children and one of her sons, Sonny Parker, lives here in the Broad area. Mrs. Connie Dozier is now living in the Bill Bentley home on Church Street. Mrs. Dozier has moved to Wilkes County from Jacksonville, Fla. She was born in Glenn County, Georgia, but moved as a small child to Jacksonville, Fla., and has lived there all her life. Mrs. Dozier has worked at Fievet Pharmacy for about 1½ years and is a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church. She has a son who lives in Lincoln County. Congratulations to Donald and Peggy Ware who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday at the Tignall Baptist Church Family Living Center. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ware, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Ware, and Mrs. Mary Ann Williamson for the weekend were Mrs. Leon Nix, Clarkesville; Mrs. Marie Willingham, LaGrange; and Mrs. Sherry Benegele, Gabby, Ashley, and Alana of Valley, Ala. Weekend visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Derrick were Laura Ashe and Kathryn Ashe from Rock Hill, S.C.; Sara Ashe from Clemson, S.C. Joining them for the day on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Derrick and Michael from Loganville. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wilson hosted a 19th birthday celebration for Abby Aaron who just recently made the dean’s list at Augusta College. A delicious fish fry was served to the following: Janet Aaron and friend, Derrick Thornton; Jamie Aaron, Neal, Kelly, and Keaton Wilson, of Tignall; Debbie and Charlie McCord, Thomson; Craig Chapman, Thomson, and his friend, Tara Inglet, Grovetown; Christie, Karsen, and Brady Hobbs, Darien; Rick McCord and son Keller of Thomson.
