RAYLE NEWS Winter, summer, fall, or spring! Whis is it? It is supposed to be winter and I miss it. I got a new red knitted-cap for Christmas that I want to wear. I’m like Doe now. I want some snow and a blizzard. I miss Doe, too, and I know all of you do. Eudora Glenn Huyck, who wrote the Tignall news until recently, kept us up with things in Tignall. I am so glad that we are going to have Tignall in the news again with Carolyn Gammon and Nobie Keener writing. I know it will be some good reading and I can’t wait. I enjoyed the poem they put in the paper last week, didn’t you? Mrs. Linda Bryan was honored Friday night with a birthday supper and celebration at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Thaxton. Others joining them were Sonny Bryan and Benjamin, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Sayer, and Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Brown. Linda’s birthday was Sunday, January 15. Troy and Shirley Chafin enjoyed having supper with Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo Diaz in which Troy was honored for his birthday which was January 5. Terri cooked him a wonderful dinner and they celebrated Alfredo’s birthday too, which was January 12. Lucille Edmonds of Anderson, S.C., spent from Thursday through Saturday with her sister, Doris Walker. They rode around sightseeing, eating out, and gallivanting. Malvin and Kay Vaughn of Marietta spent the weekend with Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Penny Vaughn of Martinez visited them Saturday. Angie Paul and Cody Paul honored Paul and Hannah Wright with a family baby shower Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Shedd. They received many nice and useful gifts and a lot of pink. Mr. and Mrs. Leeman Stewart enjoyed eating supper Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Tim Stewart and Alyssa. Fred and Ann Corbett’s visitors over the past week were J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Elaine Mathews, Lawson Owens, Melvin and Josephine Crawford, Richard and Betty Byrd, and Nina Boatwright. B.H. Moore visited Ralph Smith one day. Charlie Arnold visited Ralph and Elizabeth Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Arnold and Mrs. Denise Roberts and children spent the day Saturday. Randy Boatwright and Brandon Echols were honored for their birthdays Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boatwright and with Carmen Boatwright joining them. Nina cooked them a wonderful dinner. Randy’s birthday was January 9 and Brandon’s was January 11. Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter had Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Echols. Betty’s mother, Mrs. Lorena Hawkins, was feeling better, we are glad to report. Mrs. Sybil Vaughn visited Mrs. Marguerite Black in the Enterprise community of Oglethorpe County on her 89th birthday Saturday, January 14. Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter and Mrs. Wilda Boatwright visited Mrs. Sudie Kennedy Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Cheryl Callaway Broome spent two nights recently with Mrs. Willie Frank Blackburn. Frankie Jones of Athens, Martha Jones of Bogart, James and Sharon Smith of Stephens, Mary Burt of Washington, and Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed eating and being together at Logan’s Roadhouse Restaurant Thursday. Bonnie went up early and spent the whole day with Martha at her house. Mrs. Marian Poss met Mrs. Joyce Blackburn and Mrs. Cheryl Callaway Broome Friday at the Huddle House for breakfast and visiting. J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright went to hear the wonderful Chuck Wagon Gang at Martins Crossroads Holiness Church in Lincolnton Friday night. Mrs. Ruby Chafin was honored Thursday evening at her store on her 75th birthday. Many friends and family members were there to help her celebrate. A fish fry with all the trimmings and many other good things to eat were enjoyed by about 100 or more folks. Paul and Hannah Wright had Sunday dinner with Tim and Gail Stewart and Alyssa. Visitors of George and Ann Wideman over the past week were Gene Winfrey, Tom Hardy, Buster and Sandy Winfrey, Leeman and Mary Stewart, Rev. Jimmy Chapman, Perry and Mary Davis, James, David, and Mathew Wideman. Kim Berry and Aaliya visited Lamar, Kay, and Trey, and Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson, Sunday evening. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of James Elvis Bonner who died Wednesday at the age of 46. He was the son of Mrs. Martha Williford. A graveside service was held at the Bethesda Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Arnold and Rev. Merle Arnold officiating. Mrs. Kate Hale sang and Eddie Arnold, sister and son of Ralph Arnold, played the guitar and sang. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Mrs. Robin Hubbard, P.O. Box 313, Lexington, Ga. 30648. Mrs. Mary Grace Owen of Rossman, N.C., is spending some time with Mrs. Ruby Arnold, coming especially for the funeral of James Elvis Bonner and to be with the family. Mrs. Faye Johnson and a friend of Gray also spent some time here with them. |
