Glenn Corbett named jockey of the week by Thoroughbred Times
CORBETT Glenn Corbett was named Jockey of the Week by Thoroughbred Times Today for the third week in December and was featured, as follows, in the magazine just before Christmas.
“With 10 wins from 22 mounts, jockey Glenn Corbett finished in a tie with Cornelio Velasquez as the leading jockey by wins for this past week.
“The 10 victories helped Corbett extend his advantage atop the Turf Paradise jockey standings as he has won 65 races at that meeting, which began on September 30, giving him 20 more wins than second-ranked Miguel Hernandez.
“Corbett looks to be in position to secure his second straight riding title after winning 54 races to finish as leading rider at the Prairie Meadows meet, which ended on September 24.
“With 188 wins from 888 mounts this year, Corbett, 40, of Phoenix, ranks in the top 40 North American jockeys by wins and his horses have earned $2,868,401, which ranks in the top 100. He has won 15 stakes races this year, including the $100,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Derby at Sunland Park aboard C.G.’s Dollar.”
Corbett is the son of Dan Corbett of Rayle.
