Local applications needed for state arts program funds
Applications are needed by the end of February for a state arts program which will make money available to local arts organizations to help put on concerts, performances, art projects, and arts festivals in Wilkes County.
State funding totaling $1,900 will be available to be awarded to local entities wishing to present arts-related programs to audiences in Wilkes County from July 2005 through June 2006.
“This is an exciting opportunity to facilitate the presentation of programs of interest to our community by supporting local groups and/or artists and to activate an exciting partnership of state government and local communities,” said Carolyn Reynolds, Executive Director of the Wilkes County Community Partnership, which was designated the regranting agency for the Governor’s Grassroots Arts Program.
The Grassroots Arts Program (GAP) was developed in 1993 to help community groups provide cultural and educational opportunities that are wanted and needed at the local level. Applicants must provide a 50 percent cash match. February 28, 2006, is the deadline for applications to be received.
Among the projects eligible for funding are visual arts exhibits, concerts, theatrical and dance performances, readings, film programs, storytelling, folk art projects, arts festivals, and technical assistance programs.
Awards will be made to groups with tax-exempt status or with a coapplicant organization which has a tax-exempt status. All funded projects must be accessible to the general public and demonstrate outreach to under-served populations.
GAP funding is available statewide. Half the funds are based on population and the remainder of the funds are given as an equal amount per county.
