The Rayle Lunch and Learn Club will meet Thursday at the Rayle City Hall at 10 a.m. All ladies are invited to attend. Beaverdam Baptist Church will have a soup and sandwich meal on the fifth Sunday, January 29. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with preaching at 11:00. Rev. Jim Edwards is pastor of the church. Everyone is welcome. Rock United Methodist Church will have the district superintendent of the Methodist Charge as guest speaker Sunday morning, January 29, at 11 a.m. A covered dish meal will follow immediately after the service. Everyone is invited to attend. I have a confession to make. When I got a letter from Santa at Christmas I read it several times and it occurred to me very soon that I knew who it was from. The little tip that give it away was that they have known me since I was a very young lady and I know that a friend from where I used to live reads The NewsReporter and I think it was that person which makes it even more special. Thank you again, if indeed it was you. I had an enjoyable visit with Mrs. Wilda Boatwright Monday afternoon of last week. This past Monday afternoon I visited Ruth Flynt which I always enjoy. I visited Ruth again on Saturday afternoon and then on Sunday afternoon after saw Gloria Hardy’s car there, popped in again. Dennis and Florence Chafin, Caylor and Kristan, went to Martinez Saturday, January 21, to Forest Lake Nursing Home where Dennis’ grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Hopkins, was celebrating her 92nd birthday at a party with friends and family. Her birthday was on Friday, January 20. They report that Miss Ruth looks well and is improving nicely. Mrs. Sybil Vaughn was treated to supper for her 86th birthday Saturday, January 21, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Betty Berry. Joining Sybil and Betty for a wonderful supper were Donnie and Kris Berry, Joshua Parker, Lee and Shelley Parker, and Bradley. Lila Hostings was honored with a birthday party January 21 at the home of her parents, Lee and Shelley Parker, Tristan and Bradley. Lila had a strawberry shortcake and a bunch of family and friends came to celebrate with her. Avery Hall was eight years old on his birthday, January 21. His friend, Wes Tanner of Washington, spent Sunday night with him. Monday while they were out of school, he celebrated by going to Chuck E Cheese in Athens with his family and his friend. Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter had Sunday dinner with Boyce and Pam Hall, Lindley and Avery. Joining them were Keaton Wilson and Mrs. Martha Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Echols of Canton came Sunday to visit Fred and Ann Corbett. Other visitors during the week were J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Tom Hardy, Timmy and Gail Stewart, Marian Chow, Nina Boatwright, Peggy Echols, Dan and Beverly Corbett, Ruth Flynt, Richard and Betty Byrd, Penny Callaway, and Douglas Mathews. They appreciate your visits very much. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith’s visitors over the past week have been Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Arnold of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Arnold of Winterville; Mrs. Ann Williamson, Mrs. Sudie Kennedy, and Mrs. George Wideman. Penny Vaughn and Lena Lane of Martinez spent Thursday with Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Spending the weekend with Mrs. Vaughn were Tucker and Brenda Vaughn of Martinez. Bonnie Boatwright met her sister, Martha Jones of Bogart, in Lexington Tuesday, January 17, and they went over to Burts United Methodist Church and put flowers on the graves of their father and mother, Bob and Lois Smith. It was on the birthday of their mother. Then they went to Sandy Cross CafĂ© where they had a wonderful lunch. Prayers are for Ann Corbett, Bobby Armour, Montine Edwards, Ruth Hopkins, Eddye McClain, Sharon Smith, Billy Dawson, Suzette Kopecky, Richard Davis, and all the sick and bereaved. Our heartfelt sympathy to the families of Miss Clifford Shank, Mrs. Lola Mae Brady Davis, and Blount Gallaspy who passed away recently. They were good people and will be greatly missed in the community. Mrs. Bonnie Boatwright and Mrs. Martha Wells of Washington went to Wendy’s to play bingo Tuesday afternoon. Others from our neck of the woods going to play bingo were Marian Poss, Peggy Echols, and Fran Thaxton. J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman from Lexington were also there along with many others. Clyde and Sandy Whittington visited Carolyn Smith and Gary and Kim Rogers, Jill, Christopher, and Jonathon in Newtown Sunday afternoon. They also visited Billy and Esther Dawson in Washington. Bonnie Boatwright and J.W. had a surprise visit from her brother, James Smith of Stephens, Monday afternoon. James’ wife, Sharon, is having chemo once every two weeks in Athens. Angie Williford spent Wednesday to Sunday with Mrs. Ruby Arnold. Mrs. Martha Williford spent one night with her while Angie was there. Mrs. Mary Grace Owen returned to her home in Rossman, N.C., after a week’s visit with her mother. Other family members have also been visiting. J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary Thursday, January 19, by going to Athens to Applebees for a wonderful meal.
