Team recruitment for Wilkes County’s third annual Relay for Life continues with new teams from Washington-Wilkes Elementary School, Regions Bank, and the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce joining for 2006.

With a theme of “Rockin’ and Rollin’ for a Cure,” the local Relay for Life will held May 5 beginning

7 p.m. at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation track off Lexington Avenue. Organizer Amy Treadwell says that more teams are needed. “We currently have 14 teams signed up. They are: Little River Methodist Charge, First Baptist Church, Wilkes County Love Connection, Heartfelt Productions, Wills Memorial Hospital, Springfield Baptist Church, Wilkes Health Care, Beta Sigma Phi, Pliant, JUMP, Regions Bank, Washington-Wilkes Elementary School, Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce, and Twin Oaks Baptist Church.”

Team registration is $10 per person and includes a t-shirt. All teams that wish to participate and get a tshirt must be registered by March 27.

Several corporate sponsors have also signed on, Treadwell said. “The Relay committee would like to say a special thank you to our alreadycommitted corporate sponsors for 2006.” Those sponsors are Washington Seventh Day Adventist, Springfield Baptist Church, The Garden Party, Tena’s Jewelry, Lannae Construction, Fareway Building Supply, Church of the Mediator, and Regions Bank.

There’s plenty of room for more teams and sponsors, she said. “If you are interested in forming a team or becoming a corporate sponsor, please call me, Amy Treadwell, at 678-7565 for more information.”

The next team captains’ meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, at the W-W Parks and Recreation Dept. in the building closest to the track.
