The HEART shower will be held Saturday morning, February 4, at the Georgia Baptist Mission Center in Washington. The shower will start with breakfast prepared by ladies of the WMU Council at 10 a.m. Items needed are dish towels, trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, pencils and pens, writing paper, hand towels, female hygiene products, soap, powder, shampoo, mops, etc. Please make sure nothing has alcohol in it, and no spray aerosols. Items collected for HEART Ministries Inc. will be taken to the home in Lavonia on Monday morning, February 20. This ministry is incorporated under the laws of the State of Georgia. It is under the sponsorship of the Tugalo Baptist Association, the Georgia Baptist Convention, and the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt ministry, a home for women to go to who have alcohol and drug abuse, for eight weeks, regardless of race, faith, or denominational affiliation. They are offered an atmosphere of Christian love and acceptance. While at HEART the residents participate in group and individual counseling. They learn the 12-step recovery principles with an emphasis on God as the hope for their recovery. They learn that only a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the ultimate answer to their problems. Many lives are turned around. The program is not designed to offer medical services, so residents must have gone through detoxification before they are accepted. They must be free from certain communicable diseases. Sponsorship by a church or family members is highly desirable. For more information you may contact Jane Shelton, program director, at 706-356-3434. Thanks to all who took part and attended the fifth Sunday services at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. The Lord’s Supper was observed Sunday morning. Evening service included singing several verses of favorite hymns, several choir specials, and solos. Rev. Skip Padgett sang several solos and Little Hannah blessed everyone’s heart by singing “The B-I-B-L-E.” Pastor Bob Rayner topped it all off with a short message from God’s Holy Word. All present were encouraged to bring a roll of paper towels and shampoo Sunday, February 5, to add to items collected for HEART Ministries if they had not purchased something. Phillips Mill Baptist Church and interested friends, please keep in mind the Valentine banquet which will include all the family on Saturday night, February 11, at 6:30. If you plan to attend, please sign up. If you would like to help with the meal, see Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy continue to praise the Lord for many acts of kindness shown them. Among visitors during the week and weekend were Mary Hawes, Warren and Ann Newsome, Donnie McAvoy, and several of his grandchildren, Hope Wilson, Reese Whatley, Dorothy Ann Saxon, daughter Donna and grandchildren, Krysta Saxon, Kala Black, and Candace Johnson, Curtis McAvoy, and Gloria Hardy. Donald Denard and two little boys of Augusta visited their grandmother, Mrs. Mary Nell Denard, Saturday afternoon. Rev. Bob Rayner and Priscilla Maxwell of Phillips Mill Baptist Church were among those attending the associational executive committee meeting Tuesday night, January 24, at the Georgia Baptist Mission Center in Washington. Helen Stevens Lamar had surgery last week in Augusta. We’re glad she is home and doing as well as she can. She appreciates your prayers and loving concern. Sincere sympathy to all who have lost loved ones. Remember, God loves you.
