Economic outlook discussed

W-W Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Donna Hardy gave members of the Washington Kiwanis Club an economic update of activities for the community at their regular Tuesday lunch meeting on February 21. She indicated that Thomson Plastics was recruiting for positions, that the new correctional facility is also in the process of hiring staff. She said that efforts are being made to improve the County’s web site and announced the creation of a website specific to the Spring Tour of Homes developed by Sparky Newsome at Wilkes Publishing Co. – www.wwtourofhomes .com Those sectors of the economy that Hardy predicted would see an increase in 2006 were the service industry, hospitality, financial, public utilities, construction, and transportation, with stable or negative growth for manufacturing, retail trade, and information systems.
