Tiger boys are tops in state; overall program stands sixth in GADA Directors cup race

The Washington-Wilkes Tigers are at the top of their games and Athletic Director Russell Morgan has pointed out that, for the first time in his memory at least, the W-W athletic program is solidly placed in the top ten of the GADA Directors Cup standings. And even better than that, in boys sports, the Tigers currently lead the state in Class A.

The Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA) started its Dodge Directors Cup program to recognize those athletic departments in all GHSA classifications which have excelled and shown superior performance. It takes into account the final standing in 25 sports in both girls and boys competition and presents awards to the top scorers each year for each gender and to the overall top finisher.

The top points-getter (80 points) for WashingtonWilkes was the runner-up finish in Class A football this school year. Also contributing to the total were the boys wrestling team (40 points) and its finish in the Final 8 at the state team duals; the boys cross country team’s eighth place finish (40 points) at state; the competition cheer-leading squad’s finish (20 points) in the top 16; and the girls softball team’s trip (10 points) to the state playoffs.

Not yet counted for the 2006 tally are results of the individual wrestling tournament and the 2005-06 basketball season. Results from those and other sports will be added as seasons end.
