'The 1940s Radio Hour' to play for Tour of Homes weekend
The Washington Little Theater Company is celebrating the Tour of Homes weekend with a production of the popular musical, The 1940's Radio Hour. Directed by Libby Foster, with Ryan Dukes as director of the band and Nora Dukes as music director, the play will be presented Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, March 30-31 and April 1, at 8 p.m., and Sunday afternoon, April 2, 2006, at 3 p.m.
All productions will be at the Playhouse on North Alexander Avenue in Washington, and reservations are available at 706-678-9582.
The cast, in alphabetical order, consists of Brian Baldwin, Bradley Barber, Gordon Carver, Emma Collins, Greg Colvard, Billy Creel, Nora Dukes, John Dunfee, Tony Macchia, Sarah Peacock, Phil Rothman, April Shelton, and Kenny Sifre. In addition, a professional jazz band of eight musicians will add their talents to this gifted group of entertainers.
The play is about the rehearsal for, and actual performance of, a weekly live radio broadcast from the Hotel Astor in New York City. It is a slice of the 1940s, a broadcast intended for "our boys across the sea," and includes such classical period songs as "Blues in the Night," "Blue Moon," and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy."
"Fun. Music. Nostalgia. Romance. A great evening," according to Foster.
