Ten members and four guests of the Washington-Wilkes Garden Club were in Thomson Wednesday, March 1, for Camellia Day festivities at Belle Meade Country Club. The event was sponsored by the McDuffie County Garden Council.

Members, Celeste Adams, Mabel Johnson, Faye Durham, Tanya Boyd Jones, Edna Rhodes, Pat Mack, Mary Webster, Sally Kennedy, Henry Moone and Genevieve Thurmond and guests, Linda Burns, Sabra Hopkins, Paula Butts and Louise Harper, joined a large number of ladies from the area for the luncheon and program.

Mrs. Ruth Knox introduced her son, Mayor Robert E. Knox Jr., who gave the traditional welcome.

Luncheon tables were festively centered with colorful spring flowers. A delicious luncheon of spinach salad, Proud Mary Chicken, rice pilaf, asparagus, squash casserole, Belle Meade Biscuits and Key Lime Pie was enjoyed.

Cissy Broadie of Aiken, S.C., delighted everyone with her program, "Hat-titude". Each attendee sported a hat, either a new one, a vintage, or one decorated for the occasion. Linda Burns was awarded a camellia for the winning hat in the novelty category.

Tanya Boyd Jones, Sally Kennedy and Mary Webster also won camellias during the door prize drawing.
