Boy Scouts need camping gear, donations to replace worn out tents, other equipment
Boy Scout Troop 34 is asking for donations for much needed camping gear and other expenses.
Most of the gear used by the troop is old, worn out, and beyond repair. The Scouts and their leaders are attempting to raise money for gear that is absolutely necessary for them to successfully participate and make progress in the scouting program.
All donations will be used to purchase items for the troop and will stay with Troop 34 when the current scouts leave the Boy Scout program.
"We will take excellent care of all equipment so that it will have many years of use and others can enjoy the scouring experience long after we have used it," says Scoutmaster Vince Price.
"Scouting is an important part of our lives and not only have we had a lot of fun, we believe that we have learned many things in scouting that will help us when we become adults," the Scoutmaster continued. "We are learning leadership, character development, moral standards, and how to be good citizens."
The following items are considered necessary for the troop to successfully attain its goals of becoming Eagle Scouts:
Two ceramic charcoal water filters, $70.00 each. Total cost, $140.00
Seven internal frame backpacks, $50.00 each. Total cost, $350.00.
Ten backpacking tents, 3-6 lbs., $100.00 each. Total cost, $1,000.00.
Four backpacker cook stoves, $375.00.
Four backpacker lanterns, $75.00 each. Total cost, $375.00.
Miscellaneous supplies, $50.00.
Total cost of all items - $2,290.00.
We are thankful for any help that you can give to us," Price said. "Any amount given, no matter how small, is important. Our commitment to you is that we will take good care of the equipment so that others following us can use it.
"We will conduct ourselves according to the Scout law so that you can know that you are giving your hard-earned money into a good cause. Thanks for your support," Price concluded.
Checks can be made to Troop 34 and mailed to Scoutmaster, Troop 34, 721 Moore Road, Rayle, Ga. 30660.
