Walker named Outstanding Citizen

Dr. H. Kenneth Walker of Emory University in Atlanta; and Dr. Irakli Sasania of the M. Iashvili Central Children's Hospital in Tbilisi, Repurblic of Georgia, will receive the Outstanding Citizen Achievement Citation from the United States Agency for International Development on April 19.

Dr. Walker is a native of Wilkes County.

The citation recognizes persons who have made exceptional contributions to international development through volunteerism. The ceremony will be held at the Emory Conference Center Hotel in Atlanta.

"Through their joint efforts, shared vision and deep dedication to improving health care for the Republic of Georgia people, Drs. Walker and Sasania have established the first modern pediatric emergency room in any post-Soviet country," said Drew W. Luten III, acting assistant administrator of the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia.

"As committed leaders of a volunteer partnership between medical professionals in their respective institutions and communities, they have markedly improved health outcomes for Republic of Georgia children and created a successful model for emergency care," Luten concluded.
