Exceptional Children's Week at W-WES
Washington-Wilkes Elementary School celebrated Exceptional Children's Week March 6-10.
The theme this year was "Embracing Differences," and it was chosen by the Georgia Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
Many teachers at W-WES purchased T-shirts which sported the logo, "Embracing Differences." The shirts pictured children with and without disabilities participating in many different daily activities. The teachers who ordered shirts chose Friday to show them off at school.
The teachers of exceptional students gave the faculty and staff a different surprise each day during the week-long celebration. Each faculty and staff member received a pack of "Sunshine" crackers first thing Monday morning. They were the bright and sunny spot in the children's lives each hour during school.
Tuesday and Friday were chosen as "Sweet Treat" days. Teachers were given homemade cookies and a cake with W-WES on it. Wednesday everyone was given a coupon, courtesy of the principal, Wanda Jenkins, for an "extra dress-down day" during any upcoming week.
Finally, some students with special needs made "thank you" cards for the teachers.
Robin Booker, Terry Roberts, Barbara Ross, and LaVonda Tanner are the teachers of exceptional students at W-WES. They could not do what they do each day without the daily help and support of Jackie Crew, Charlotte Waller, and Angela Wooten, their paraprofessionals.
Each of them thanks all teachers and other support personnel for the hard work and dedication that are given to all children every day.
Jarvis Scott's name was omitted from the sixth grade list of AR Sweetheart Readers in the March 9 article on page 3A of The News-Reporter.
