We made a mistake in the report on Henry Brown's Gin House. We reported that Dr. Ragsdale died in 1909. First Evelyn Rambo called and said her parents lived next to Dr. Ragsdale and she remembered him, then several people said they remembered him . . . and these people were born since 1909. Nita Riley told us that he was buried at the Methodist Church Cemetery. So after investigating we found that Dr. Elias Walter Ragsdale died in 1941. In Skeet Willingham's book, The History of Wilkes County, Georgia ,there is a reference to Dr. Ragsdale. It states that when the old hospital was first opened in the 1920s, Norman Adams of Tignall was the first patient with Dr. Ragsdale admitting him for a tonsillectomy. Nita also said that her father, Mr. Sam Rhodes, at one time owned the gin, the grist mill, and a store at the traffic light on the corner of Hulin Avenue and Church Street. Mr. Sam Rhodes was the father of Nita Riley, Jack Rhodes, the late Sam Rhodes Jr., Freddie Rhodes, Peggy Callaway, Marion Rhodes, the late Ginny Lindsey, Olivia Norman, Glenn Rhodes and Phyllis Drake. Nita Riley is a very interesting person; in fact, she is like a walking history book. We have received many compliments on this article . . . so to set the records straight, the article was written by Nobie Keener and the photographer was Carolyn Gammon. We know of three people in this area who will be having surgery this week. They are Macy Smith, Frances Vinson and Lois Savage. Wilbur Maney has had eye surgery, but is not doing well, so he will be returning to the doctor this week. Let's keep them in our prayers. Beulah Baptist Church will be having a fish fry at 6 p.m. on April 29 at the church. They will be selling plates to the public to make money for their building fund. Some members of Beulah Baptist Church went on a couples retreat this past weekend to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Those attending were Rev. Jamie Callaway and wife Jill; John and Katie Mack; William and Kathy Johnson; Leroy and Cindy Bufford; Joey and Susan Whitfield; Jimmy and Carolyn Harper; and Tommy and Sabra Hopkins. Don't forget the Georgia Baptist Evangelism Rally at the Tignall Baptist Church on Thursday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 18, the Youth Department of the Tignall Baptist Church will be going to an ice skating rink. The reservation is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those planning to attend need to let Ann Harrison or your Sunday School teacher know. Everyone at Tignall Baptist Church enjoyed hearing the Kids Alive group: David Martin, Hunter Futch, Curt Gammon, Raina Dodson, Erin Thornton, Joe and Jack Rogers, Christian Wright, and Paden McTier singing "His Name Is Wonderful;" and the Men's Group of Five: Ronnie Futch, Josh Fincher, Gary Butts, Ben Long, and Rev. Dale Fincher, singing "Shall We Gather at the River." There are some talented children and adults in this church. Congratulations to Caleb Tyler, son of Greg and Gena Tyler of Hoschton and grandson of Alex and Kay Tyler. He won first place in the kindergarten through first grade category of the Georgia Department of Agriculture 2006 annual Agriculture Day Art Contest. He had breakfast in Atlanta March 15 at the Agriculture building and then he will go to the Capitol for a proclamation signing by Governor Sonny Perdue where the awards will be presented. Caleb's picture was shown on Fox 5 television Wednesday morning. This is not new to Caleb since he won second place last year when he was in kindergarten. Caleb is now a first grader.

Sydney Tyler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Tyler of Hoschton, spent the weekend with her grandparents, Alex and Kay Tyler. Kay and Sydney visited Carolyn and Richard Gammon Saturday night. Carolyn and Richard were babysitting their grandchildren, Curt, Kara and Kaci, at the time. Carolyn let all four children have fun painting pictures in her kitchen. The kitchen got painted a little bit too. Louise and Darden Denard attended the Ruff family reunion on February 26 in the main dining hall at Camp Harmony in Elbert County. There were approximately 100 family members present. Years ago the family started celebrating the birthday of Louise's grandmother, Zada Mae Fortson Ruff. She died in 1980 at 100 years old. They continue celebrating her birthday every year with a family reunion. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener last weekend were Vince Keener of Snellville and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Keener and Madison of Loganville. Albert Rhodes Jr. of McDonough spent the week at his home in Beulah. His wife, Carolyn, came down on Wednesday and spent the rest of the week here. We were sorry to hear of the fourwheeler accident that injured Al McCall's six-year-old son. He lost a toe and has a broken ankle. The Friends of Faith, the women's prayer group from Mallorysville Baptist Church, met last Sunday night with a pizza supper and watched the video, "Maxie and the Preacher's Wife." Our sympathy goes out to the family of Millie Norman who was 91 years old at her death. Her son is Grady Norman.
