Funeral services for Mary Leigh Wellmaker, 83, of Lincolnton were held Friday, March 3, 2006, at Hephzibah Baptist Church, Lincolnton, with Rev. Allen Danner officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died Tuesday, February 28, in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mrs. Wellmaker was the widow of William Guy Wellmaker and was a member of the Hephzibah Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of the church.

Survivors include a son, William Guy Wellmaker Jr. of Texas; a sister, Jeanie W. Martin, Lincolnton; five grandchildren, William Guy Wellmaker III, Lisa Spears, Michelle McCarley, Franklin Combs Jr., and Joyce Newberry; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers included Wayne Demuse, Wayne Epps, Jimmie Goldman, M.B. Hudson, Randy Ingram, Billy Joe Paradise, Billy Paradise, Edward Portwood, Forrest Spence, Ira Tiller, Ben Hill Wells, and Emie Wren.
