Phillips Mill Baptist Church enjoyed having singers Paul and Robin Moore of Detroit, Michigan, to sing during the evening worship service Sunday night, March 12. They were visiting Paul's dad and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. John Moore in Lincolnton. They are not related to the Moores of Phillips Mill that I know of. Mr. John is a good friend of Pastor Bob Rayner. Nice people to know. It was also good to have our associational missionary, Rev. James Bland, and his wife Judith to visit. Phillips Mill Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School the first full week in June, June 5-9. VBS teachers and helpers are still needed. Please see Charlotte Waller if you are able and willing to help out in any way. I feel sure there will be a place for a willing heart who loves the Lord and children. The theme is Blast Off for an Out-ofthis world Adventure with Club VBS. Space Quest! Kids will explore biblical truths about Jesus' mission for them and jet to space stations for crafts, snacks, and recreation. The motto is Jesus: the Way, the Truth, the Life. Priscilla Maxwell enjoyed attending the 2006 Annie Armstrong missions celebration of the Georgia Baptist Association held with the County Line Baptist Church on Tuesday night, March 7. A delicious covered dish meal was enjoyed together in the fellowship hall beginning at 6:30. Then moved on into the sanctuary where Fran Thaxton, Associational WMU Director, gave a hearty welcome and introduced Jimmie Harris of Milledgeville, our District 4B WMU Consultant who shared different things going on in Georgia WMU, which included a report of Camp Pinnacle near Clayton. Mrs. Harris introduced the missionary speaker, Paulette DeHart of Snellville, who works with literacy missions statewide. She was very interesting. Director of Missions Rev. James Bland prayed the closing prayer. I want to thank everyone who took part in any way. A special thank you to the members of County Line Baptist Church, their pastor, and family for the great support of your presence for the meeting. Not every church shows their WMU director that much respect, love, and cooperation. My hat goes off for a nice event. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Elizabeth (Beth) Randall Glenn, 50, daughter of David Randall and the late Ann Broome Randall of Washington, who passed away. Many friends joined her family and relatives at a memorial service held Sunday afternoon at Hopkins Funeral Home. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Thomas Sturdivant Jr., 44, of August who passed away Thursday, March 9. Thomas Jr. was born in Wilkes County on December 30, 1961, the son of Thomas Sturdivant and the late Jane Miller. He grew up and graduated from Warrenton High School in 1980. His mother died in 1980 at age 44. She grew up at Phillips Mill, youngest child of the late Luther and Marie Hackney Miller. Thomas and Jane were parents of Thomas Jr. and two daughters, Susan and Jerrie Lynn. Susan married a Bafford and Jerrie Lyn a Cobranchi and have nice families of their own. Their father later married again and had several children by his second wife. Among relatives attending Thomas Jr.'s funeral Sunday afternoon at Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson, and burial in Savannah Valley Memorial Cemetery were Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Miller and their daughter Debbie and granddaughter Ashley; Helen (Mrs. Howard) Miller, her daughter Chere Spinato, and grandson, Mickey Taylor; their cousin, Bobby Miller of Westminster, S.C., and friend, Priscilla Johnson (Mrs. Morrison) Maxwell of Phillips Mill, who grew up with his mother Jane. Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry continue to be thankful for friends and relatives stopping by. Among those other than their children visiting recently were their sister in-law, Nell McAvoy; her son, David, and his family; Nell's sister, Vickie Rucker Howell; Gussie McAvoy, Dell James, Barbara Wolters, Henry and Faye McAvoy,. Gloria Hardy, Mildred Sisson, Ruth Flynt, Priscilla Maxwell, and grandson, Tyler Scarborough, and Billy McAvoy. I hope no one was left out because each visitor is special. Don't forget the Vacation Bible School Directors Meeting at the Mission Center Saturday morning, March 25. All VBS directors are welcomed. The meeting is at 10 a.m. Happy birthday to Nancy Rayner on March 25. The Associational WMU Leadership Team will meet at the Mission Center Thursday, March 23, at 4:45 p.m. Giving and forgiving make a life worth living. Remember, God loves you.
