Wansley on Danburg Street (now the home of Wayne and Becky Thomasson). A recent family gathering at the 1910 Inn in Thomson celebrated the birthday of Tignall native, Shirley (LeRoy) Gunter. What sadness we are all feeling to read that Mrs. Mildred Sisson is retiring. We have all enjoyed her many interesting articles through the years. She states, "It has been a pleasure." No, Miss Mildred, the pleasure has been all ours! Good luck and best wishes in your muchdeserved retirement. Have any of you been Academy Awards watchers through the years - not only for the fashion (or lack thereof), but also to find out which movie was the favorite of the Academy (not necessarily the people's choice)? This year, as you know, Reese Witherspoon won Best Actress for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line." In her acceptance speech - which was precious - at one point she quoted June Carter Cash, stating, "I'm just trying to matter." I guess that's the goal of many of us. Annalise Harrison and her son Will have moved into the brick house (George Bolton home) next to Harper's Personal Care Home, on Hulin Avenue. Annalise and Will moved from Lincolnton and Annalise works at Harper's. Welcome Annalise and Will. I bet you're enjoying that short commute to work. Harper's Personal Care Home residents (Marie Bradley, Margaret Darden, Viola Epps, Alliene Lunceford, Vena Mize, Eva Reed, Jessie Scott, Isolene Sims, Bessie Skipper, and Sara Young) celebrated St. Patrick's Day by all dressing in green. They enjoyed the day and visitors. Resident Belle Shoemaker fell and broke her hip on March 10, and is now a patient (for rehab) at Quiet Oaks in Crawford. Everyone is looking forward to her speedy recovery and return to Harper's. The community extends sympathy to the family of Barbara Barker. She is survived by her husband, Larry Barker Jr., daughter, Alicia Barker, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Burton. We welcome our newest residents, Karen and Robert Williams. They will be moving into the home where Eudora Huyck's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reece Glenn, lived and before them, Eudora's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle, lived. They are moving here from Lincolnton. Karen is the manager of the Dollar General in Tignall. Karen and Robert also are known for their talent in gospel singing. This couple sang at our Tignall Fall Festival last November. Eudora Huyck visited with her son, Lem LeRoy, in Charlotte, N.C., last weekend. They are busy working on the wedding plans. Eudora said she will be making many trips to Charlotte from now until the wedding in July. There has been good attendance to Miss Kat's Kids Ministries on the Fridays of March, 10 and 17. This was for kids eight and under at Tignall Baptist Church, Kat Dodson used lessons from "Cherub Wings." It is understood that the parents bringing the children got as much out of these lessons as did their children. The "Awana Grand Prix Car Race" will be held Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m., at Tignall Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to come out and cheer for the racers. The Youth Department will sponsor a fund-raiser on that same day before the "Awana Grand Prix Race." They will serve hotdogs with chips and a drink for $3.00 or a sausage dog and a drink for $4.00. You must be signed up for this meal. Mrs. Kaye Fincher's Ladies Sunday School Class will be dining at Clifford's Restaurant Thursday, March 23. They will be leaving the church at 6:30 p.m. Daisy Parker joined her sisters, Esther Dawson, Inez Moore, Margie Rogers, and Sadie Simmons from Kings Mountain, Tenn., and spent a few days at Unicoi Springs. They had a good time enjoying the fellowship, eating out, and walking around the park. The Beulah Baptist Church WMU met Monday at the church for their week of prayer. Tickets will be available from any of the church members and will be $6 per ticket. Carl Bailey is not doing well. Beulah Baptist Church members have really missed him. Paula and Gary Butts and Louise Harper visited with Louise's son (Paula's brother) and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Ken Harper in Macon. While there they enjoyed the Cherry Blosso;m Festival.
