Can you believe that today, Monday, March 20, as I write my news, is the first day of spring? How time flies! Monday afternoon I went to the AARP meeting at the Senior Center. It was decided that the chapter would have a team for Relay for Life which will be in May at the Parks and Recreation Department. Tuesday afternoon, I went down to Washington, to town, as we say it, to play bingo at Wendy's. I went out and picked up Mrs. Martha Wells and we met all our other bingo friends who come out to play. Other from the neighborhood who went were Marian Poss, Fran Thaxton, and Peggy Echols. J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington also came. Most of the players are from Washington Wilkes but others come in from time to time. We have so much fun. Thursday I went to Bogart to spend the day with my sister, Martha Jones. We went to Buffalo's to enjoy a lunch together with our other sister, Frankie Jones of Athens, and our brother and his wife, James and Sharon Smith of Stephens, and Mary Burt of Washington. Tuesday of last week I went to the County Line Baptist Church to the Annie Armstrong celebration. I enjoyed the covered dish meal and the fellowship and the missionary who spoke and seeing friends of different churches. Sunday afternoon I attended a lovely wedding shower in Washington at the home of Alan and Teresa Kemp in honor of Dia Grabb and Dean Winfrey. They received many nice and useful gifts. Fred and Ann Corbett's visitors over the past week have been J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Nina Boatwright, Shirley Bufford, Mariann Chow, Jean Pitts, Douglas Mathews, Beverly Corbett, Faye Lamar, Mildred Sisson, Catherine Callaway, Rev. Jim Edwards, Richard Byrd, and Barry and Dana Echols. Carmen Boatwright was honored with a birthday dinner Sunday at the home of her grandparents, Charles and Nina Boatwright. Others coming for the celebration were Randy Boatwright, Mike and Tina Boatwright, and Cody and Brandon Echols. Ann Williamson and Nancy Williamson and Amanda went on a fantastic trip to Memphis, Tennessee, where they spent Thursday at Graceland. Friday they went on to Kentucky and visited Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Walker, and Ann's stepmother, Virginia Walker. Saturday morning they went on to Nashville, Tennessee, where they did some sightseeing and Saturday night they went to the Grand Ole Opry. After staying overnight in the Opryland Hotel they headed for home Sunday morning. Ann said everything was so beautiful and they had a wonderful time. Lucile Edmonds of Anderson, S.C., came over and spent from Friday to Sunday with her sister, Doris Walker, then she went to another sister's home, Mablean Sherrer, where she stayed until Tuesday. Joyce Snelson and Erica of St. Louis, Missouri, spent from Saturday to Tuesday with her sister, Sandy Whittington, and Clyde. Sunday, Neil and Kim Frankel, Zachery and Kyle, joined them for lunch. Sunday evening, all of them went to Neil and Kim's in Crawford for supper. Fred Weidner of Lexington joined them there. Penny Vaughn of Martinez spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Larry Maxwell and Tom Hardy visited George and Ann Wideman last week. Visiting over the weekend were James, David, Mathew and Watson Wideman. Sissy Smith, J.T. and Abby, and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie enjoyed the day Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols. Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava Melinda have enjoyed having visitors over the past week, including Robert and Judy Wright, Leeman and Mary Stewart, Patty Stewart and Patrick, and Mrs. Millie Mansfield. Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter enjoyed having lunch with Martha Hall Sunday. Joining them were James and Joyce Bowen, Brandon, Stephanie and Cameron, and Boyce and Pam Hall, Lindley and Avery, and Keaton Wilson. Jack and Rubye Armour had a family get-together at their house Saturday. Those coming for the dinner and fellowship were Lyn and Debra Armour, Casey and Mitch, John Armour, Barry Armour, Brittany, Bettina and Dylan, Brock, Greg, Angela, Samantha, Cody and Hunter, Will Callaway, Tracy, Denise, Ethan and Jackson Armour, Martha Hall, James and Joyce Bowen, Brandon, Stephanie, and Cameron, Boyce and Pam Hall, Lindley and Avery, and Keaton Wilson, Norman and Joan Echols, Jason Echols, Adriane Echols, and Anthony, Norman Jr. and Regina Echols, and Trey. Ann Wideman visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith one day during the week. Bobby and Sandra Arnold of Winterville came one day. Charlie Arnold came Thursday and took Elizabeth to her doctor's appointment. Mary Burt visited Thursday afternoon. Chris and Heather Armour spent Thursday to Sunday in Savannah celebrating their wedding anniversary. Amber, Rebecca and Raeleigh stayed with grandparents, Bobby and Debra Armour, while their parents were gone. Jesse Callaway spent Saturday with Amber. Frances Fendley also visited with them. Rev. John Mark Carpenter visited Robert and Edith Harper Sunday afternoon. Robert was celebrating his birthday Sunday. We were sorry to learn of the serious illness of Pete Poss who is in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta. Sybil Hayes spent Sunday with her sister, Peggy Echols. Gloria Hardy and Ruth Flynt spent Sunday afternoon in Bogart with Melvin and Jane Bailey and Taylor.
