Funeral services for Susie Lee Gartrell, 98, were held Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church with Pastor Kim Leverett officiating. Interment was in City West Cemetery, Washington. She died March 14 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Gartrell was a native of Wilkes County and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wylie. She was the widow of Albert Gartrell and was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Juanita Smith, Washington, D.C., Mozell Gartrell and Betty Wylie, Washington; three sons, Albert Gartrell and Walter Gartrell of Washington, and Randy Gartrell of Atlanta; a brother, Joe Wylie, Lexington, N.C.; a sister, Annie Mae Howard, Lexington, N.C.; 23 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 36 great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

Davenport-McLendon Mortuary of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
