Little League season gets started beginning with annual parade Sat.
     If you feel like you just can%27t wait for baseball season any longer, then rest easy - this Saturday, March 25, the Washington-Wilkes Little League season gets started with the annual parade and festivities at Ashley Park.

Tigers split a pair of games this week
     The W-W Tigers beat McCormick 13-1 but lost to No. 4 Aquinas 7-9 during games last week. On Wednesday, March 22, the Tigers traveled to Harlem and will return home for B-team and varsity games against North Oconee on Saturday, March 25. Registration begins for adult softball, continues to Mar. 31
     Registration began last Monday for the spring adult softball program sponsored by the WashingtonWilkes Parks and Recreation Department and will continue, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with a deadline of Friday, March 31.

Young Tigers win three more games
     The Washington-Wilkes Tiger Middle School baseball team played a great couple of games on Saturday, March 18. They defeated Putnam 10-2, and then defeated Thomson 4-3.

Murphy wins friction championship in S.C. turkey calling competition
     Champion turkey caller Jeff Murphy added another trophy to his collection this month when he won the friction championship at the South Carolina State Turkey Calling competition in Edgefield.

     Four Wilkes County cheerleading teams and a guest team from Oglethorpe County will compete Saturday for the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Cheerleading Competition 2006.

Turkey season opens Saturday; reports say birds are 'abundant'
     The statewide turkey hunting season opens this weekend, giving hunters a chance to harvest this magnificent game bird. The season opens on Saturday, March 25, and runs through Monday, May 15, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).
